A lighting fixture is an electrical device that creates light by means of heat-driven light emissions. An electric current passes through a thin filament, heating it until it starts producing light. To prevent oxygen from reaching the hot filament and destroying it by oxidation, the glass bulb surrounds it. A variety of different kinds of lighting fixtures are used for different light functions and they are mainly classified in two groups, free-standing or portable, which include table lamps, and fixed, which may include a cove light or a torch lamp, also known as torchiere.
